Course Description:

The course objective is to have every employee understand their responsibility to maintain a harassment-free workplace!

Harassment is not just about sex and gender. It can also involve various cultural differences, race, religion, age, disabilities and other protected characteristics. Harassment can occur in any workforce, in any job situation, and any form of employee discrimination that falls within these categories is illegal.

The employee version of this course focuses on employee sensitivity and awareness. It teaches why a harassment policy that emphasizes a respect for coworker differences is not only required by the law, but is also the right thing to do.

Both for the manager and employee, the training includes video simulations centering around a dramatic story showing an all-too-common situation, where diverse cultural backgrounds test employees’ interpersonal skills, and friction grows from “just kidding around” into illegal harassment.

In class facilitation from Hon. Thomas Epsky provides his expertise and legal perspective.

Employees will be engaged in an interactive learning environment and be able to understand:

  • Appropriate behaviors that will help maintain a harassment-free workplace.
  • When "joking around" crosses the line and becomes workplace harassment.
  • It's not the intent that matters, but how the behavior is perceived by the recipient that counts.
  • Why the employer's harassment prevention policy must be taken seriously.
  • What to do when someone is the target of harassment.

About the Presenter:
Commissioner Thom Epsky is serving his forth 4-year term as a member of the Florida Reemployment Assistance Appeals Commission (RAAC). As commissioner (appellate administrative law judge), Mr. Epsky adjudicates reemployment assistance cases appealed to the Commission from an Appeals Referee decision and often deal with misconduct, Title VII, discrimination, workplace harassment, and Wage and Hour issues.  Under Florida Statute, Commissioner Epsky is charged with exercising all authority, powers, duties and responsibilities relating to reemployment assistance appeal proceedings in the state.
